Operator Spotlight: Sundt Air
/Air Charter Guide recently spoke with Kristine Tesdal of Sundt Air, a Norway-based operator specializing in business jet charter and management of business jets. Sundt Air has facilities for operation and maintenance and is able to assist aircraft owners with all needs pertaining to operating an aircraft. Sundt Air also performs special mission modifications and operations and started providing flight inspection services in 2002.
1) Charter travelers’ tips and know-how – how do you guide a customer through the process?
Customers who are new to private charter are often used to trips that are held together by transits, crowds, luggage-weighing, and hours of waiting in badly-ventilated departure halls. We explain to them how private charter is more convenient and relaxing. It is easy and comfortable from the very first moment. There could hardly be an easier way to travel: The customer calls to let us know they are on their way. The door closes when they are onboard and, as soon they are in their seats, the aircraft starts to taxi and is airborne five minutes later.
Every aircraft has a cabin service representative ready to help with anything from communication to special requests, as well as administering the customer-chosen catering. Most of our customers want the standard catering, but if you want master sushi or Norwegian lobster, or have special drink preferences, anything can be made available.
In aviation, safety is obviously very important on many different levels. In addition to the safety standards and regulations set by the industry, customers of Sundt Air can rest assured that all information regarding their journey is managed and treated with the utmost discretion. The opportunity to travel with anonymity is an essential part of our business.
Also, charter trips are applicable to many types of customers. Sundt Air has experience with arranging tailor-made trips and can offer alternatives in different price ranges depending on the type of aircraft, itinerary, service, and logistics alternatives. Our job is to adhere to big and small, usual and unusual wishes and requests every single day.
Everything is possible. While on a business trip, you can add in a detour for your own pleasure. From the airport, we can arrange helicopter transport further on. We can offer planes with beds, aircraft with room for three or one hundred, and we can even charter a Boeing Business Jet or a 747 if that is what you would like. Still, I believe that traveling by private jet is an actual option for more people than might think so at first.
To put it short; if you prefer a simple, more subdued solution, we will arrange that – and if you would like something extravagant and impressive, we will organize that!
2) How would you describe your fleet or flagship aircraft?
Our fleet consists of relatively new aircraft, all very well-kept and maintained by our own in-house technical department. We have several Challenger 350s, a Challenger 604, a Falcon 8X and a Falcon 7X, a CJ4, and four King Airs. Our flagship aircraft, LN-MDT is a 2021 Challenger 350. It is a beauty if I might say so. It has an elegant, polished interior, and offers the greatest comfort. Check our website to see for yourself!
3) How did Sundt Air get into the Aviation industry?
Sundt Air was founded in 1997 as Nor Aviation, and all assets were acquired in 1998 by Petter C.G. Sundt, one of Norway’s leading businessmen. Today the Company, part of the Sundt Group, is owned by his children Christan C.G.Sundt and Else Helene Sundt.
4) What does the future look like for your company?
Business is going well and we have a positive outlook! The Sundt siblings are dedicated to the continued development of the company. They have inherited their father's excitement for the aviation business and state that “Sundt Air is our chosen device for a safe, dynamic, and professional operation. Our state-of-the-art facility at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, which is the largest and most modern in Northern Europe, gives us the opportunity to pursue maintenance and aircraft handling.”
5) What is your most popular itinerary/destination?
London, Zurich, Nice and Copenhagen are popular destinations for charter flights. Berlin, Paris and Palma de Mallorca are also favorites.
6) Do you specialize in ambulance or cargo?
We did specialize in ambulance in the early days, but for the last 20 years, we have focused on the management of aircraft, executive charter, and special mission operations. In the special mission segment, we operate a King Air 350ER and two King Air B200s, for maritime surveillance and flight inspection. Since 2010, we have provided airborne surveillance of the Norwegian coast and territorial waters on behalf of the Norwegian Coastal Authority. In 2016, Sundt Air was awarded a similar contract by Defense Command Denmark for maritime surveillance and pollution control in Danish territorial waters. So, the special mission division is an important part of the company.
8) What other services do you offer?
Handling supervision! Our sister company, Sundt Air Executive Handling AS, will supervise and support any flights you have within Scandinavia. Our NATA Professional Line Service and Management teams are the most experienced and can assist in making every flight seamless from arrival to departure.
Sundt Air Executive Handling AS, a part of the Sundt Group, has achieved the International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH™) Stage 3 registration. The first Scandinavian FBO to achieve IS-BAH Stage 3, Sundt Air Executive Handling is also the second FBO in Europe to achieve the advanced safety standard level.
