Charter Spotlight: Air New England
/Air Charter Guide recently spoke with Lisa Campbell of Air New England, an air charter operator based in New Hampshire, USA. Air New England provides Passenger and Cargo charter services throughout New England, Eastern/Mid US, and Canada.
1) Charter travelers tips and know-how – how do you guide a customer through the process?
Whenever possible, we like to start with a phone call. The nuances of each trip may sometimes get lost via text or email. How do we guide our customers? Well, we ask a lot of questions, from the purpose of the trip, who is on board, any mobility, luggage or personal concerns, do they have a budget in mind; anything that empowers ANE to individualize the journey and make it the best possible experience. It is also typical that the staff member who initiates the conversation with the customer is also the one who orchestrates the entire journey, so there is a budding synergy that is hard to replicate otherwise.
2) How would you describe your fleet or flagship aircraft?
Our fleet is diverse. We have the very fast, budget-minded Baron, always a crowd favorite and in high demand. Our King Air is the workhorse of the fleet. So reliable, the pilots love to fly it and it’s mission mission-ready for any operation. Our newest addition is the Mustang Citation - our first jet. Small but mighty, it gets our customers to their destinations with elegance and ease. It is a gateway aircraft for ANE, as we look to add additional, bigger jets to meet our customers’ demands.
3) What does the future look like for your company?
We are excited. So many plans to exceed our customer expectations. We are sourcing duplicity for our current fleet. We are researching the next jet to supplement our fleet as nonstop to Florida is always a crowd-pleaser. Most importantly, we are expanding our horizons. Many people don't know that we have operations near and dear to our hearts, such as moving physicians to remote locales to perform critical operations or moving organs and medical supplies in complex critical settings.
4) How did you get into aviation?
I was on track to work in the medical field when I had the opportunity to become an exchange student in Germany during my Junior year in high school. My host family owned a flight school with gliders, helicopters and small aircraft. I flew every one of them. I was hooked and the rest is history.
5) What is your most popular itinerary/event/destination?
From a customer standpoint, it has to be the islands (ACK, MVY) or Bar Harbor. From an ANE standpoint, it is the physician’s flight because we feel we are flying with a purpose and part of an operation so much bigger than ourselves.
6) Do you specialize in ambulance or cargo?
We do not have the capability to transport non-ambulatory patients, although we would love to someday! Cargo, yes, especially in our Baron which converts easily from passenger to cargo flight.
7) Fun stories or narrative to share:
For ANE, it never gets old reuniting families. That is a mainstay of our operation. When we get to shuttle family members to a pre-determined location once a year so the entire family gets their yearly visit - I don't know if it gets much better than that.
8) What is a memorable event you’ve taken passengers to in the past?
I think the most memorable was bringing a family to the Kentucky Derby. The airspace and destinations are so traffic-saturated that it is challenging to anticipate every possible scenario. However, the best part was this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a family who splurged to make it happen. Air New England was thrilled to be part of this and make their experience a success.
