Broker Spotlight: Ubaire
/Air Charter Guide recently spoke with Sandra Laurencio of Ubaire, a charter broker based in Mexico City. Ubaire is part of the ICCS group, the leading private aviation services company in Mexico, with more than 25 years of experience in the business, more than eleven thousand flights served each year and the largest network of FBOs in the country.
1) Charter travelers tips and know-how – how do you guide a customer through the process?
For Ubaire it´s really important to understand customer needs, not just the fact of “their need to fly.” Business, vacation? Emergency? We try to offer the best aircraft option based on their travel purpose and the information they provide, allowing us to offer several options and suggestions so that they can get the best experience.
2) What does the future look like for your company?
As a developing brand, we face many challenges, but we are definitely growing. We are always adjusting our services per clients’ needs, based on their previous experiences with us, our know-how and our network of operators. Our daily goal is to provide solutions that make them trust Ubaire despite other options.
3) How did you get into aviation?
I had the opportunity to work for several years at an FBO in Toluca, Mexico. Being “in the field” gave me different perspectives about all aspects that involve this industry and all the in-between that needs to get done for successful operations.
4) What is the hidden gem destination city you would recommend for charter travelers?
Among others, there is Bacalar, in Quintana Roo, located 40 mins away from Chetumal Airport (MMCM). You must visit the Seven Colors Lagoon, where you can swim, snorkel and have plenty of adventures; with all the wild environment and Mayan culture, Bacalar is one Hidden Gem.
5) What is the must-see attraction you recommend?
At Bacalar, everything is a “must,” but definitely the Cenotes, located mostly in the jungle… sometimes in caves or with a beautiful blue sky as a ceiling, are one of the favorite attractions for visitors.
6) List your top five restaurants in the world:
Amaranta, Toluca , Mexico
Pujol, Mexico City
Le Clarance, France
Central, Lima, Peru
Eleven Madison Park, NYC, USA
7) Fun stories or narrative to share:
After setting up a private flight to Cancun in a Challenger 601, for 9 passengers…I wanted everything to be “perfect”, so I went to the FBO we arranged in order to meet them and supervised that everything went ok.
Suddenly, the flight attendant texted that she had a problem getting to the flight and wasn’t able to attend! Imagine, it was a last-minute problem during the holiday season, no back-up for this flight attendant.
So, I offered to go myself and they said YES! I had no idea where things were! I explained to them that I had no experience as a flight attendant, but for sure, a lot of experience in service.
So, I did my best up in the air and they were very happy by the end of the flight. I had another adventure to tell and of course an unexpected great weekend in Cancun.
8) What is your #1 travel tip for charter travelers?
Always keep safety in mind. We can all offer aircraft to fly clients to their destinations, but not all offers are reliable. Be aware that differences in pricing hold back a lot of safety matters that are worth considering. Safety is customer care too!
