NATA Mourns the Loss of Longtime Colleague and Friend M. Johanna O’Toole

On behalf of the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) membership and staff, President and CEO Timothy Obitts expressed sorrow over the sudden loss of longtime staff member M. Johanna (Sigmond) O’Toole, who passed away unexpectedly last week.

“We are deeply saddened by Johanna O’Toole’s passing. Johanna cared deeply for the association and its members, treating those close to her and their loved ones like an extended part of her family. Over time she became association historian and industry cheerleader, always mindful of preserving and sharing the rich history of NATA and its members,” stated Obitts. “Johanna could always be counted on for her sage advice, stellar member service, and sharp wit. If you were lucky enough to spend time with Johanna and hear her laugh, it is something that you will always remember.”

Johanna joined NATA in 1998, serving as director of administration & financial services. Her extraordinary drive and focus propelled her to increasing levels of success, landing her in the role of NATA comptroller by 2012. As comptroller, she led an experienced administrative/financial team, overseeing day-to-day association operations. In 2017, Johanna started her own successful venture — Business Solution Tooles LLC — leveraging her vast experience to assist small businesses with their accounting and administrative needs.

Prior to NATA, Johanna was an account manager at Degnon and Associates, an association management firm in McLean, VA. She also worked for the National Business Aviation Association as its manager of membership for more than 10 years.

“Johanna was an important part of NATA’s senior management team. Her hard work and dedication to the association were integral in building a solid foundation for the association’s success today. She will be greatly missed, but many fond memories of her will remain. We extend our deepest sympathies to her entire family and extensive network of friends,” Obitts added.
