NATA Announces Retirement of Legacy Safety 1st System, and Expansion of the New Safety 1st Training Center

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has launched the official schedule for its Legacy Safety 1st System’s retirement and recent expansion of the new Safety 1st Training Center (SFTC). The announcement was made ahead of the December 31, 2020 end of life for Adobe’s Flash Player – the technology powering NATA’s Legacy Safety 1st System.

In 2008, NATA paved the way for industry training with the launch of Safety 1st online and the Professional Line Service Training (PLST) programs. Since its launch, the Safety 1st  program has grown in scope and reach, utilized at more than 1,600 locations around the world.  In August 2019, NATA took the next step empowering its member’s safety and success with the launch of the new Safety 1st Training Center (SFTC). The SFTC is a comprehensive learning management platform providing aviation businesses the tools and flexibility needed to leverage training and development to improve operational safety and performance. The SFTC continues to expand its course catalog with the recent addition of a fuel quality control series and customer service series of courses.

With the availability of the SFTC and the impending end of life for Flash Player, NATA will begin phasing out the “Legacy” Safety 1st system this month, using the following schedule:

  • September 30, 2020 – New companies will NOT be added to the Legacy system.
  • October 31, 2020 – Purchasing of Legacy “seats” (course licenses) will be disabled. However, companies can continue to assign any licenses held in their account.
  • December 1, 2020 – New assignments will NOT be allowed. Although, administrators can continue to access the system for records management purposes. Students currently training in the Legacy system must complete their assignment(s) by December 31, 2020.
  • January 1, 2021 - June 1, 2023 – The legacy system will continue to be available to administrators for records management, during this period.

The new Safety 1st  Training Center provides unlimited-use training for one annual, fixed payment, with no additional cost associated with employee turnover. With monthly and quarterly payments available and a dollar for dollar credit on legacy training purchased in the last six months, the new Safety 1st Training Center is powerful and affordable. Additionally, many branded fuel programs provide discounted subscription pricing for their customers.

“We are incredibly excited about this next step in growth for the NATA Safety
1st program,” said Michael France, Managing Director of Safety & Training. “The SFTC provides our membership revitalized content, enhanced tools and a subscription model that eliminates the additional training cost of employee turnover.”
