NATA’s Obitts Named to DOT Safety Committee

Timothy Obitts, NATA’s COO and General Counsel has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safety Oversight and Certification Advisory Committee (SOCAC) as a member representing business aviation operators. 
 
As outlined in the charter, the SOCAC was established to provide advice to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on policy-level issues facing the aviation community related to FAA safety oversight and certification programs and activities, including aircraft and flight standards certification processes, along with efforts to streamline those processes; implementation and oversight of safety management systems; risk-based oversight efforts; utilization of delegation and designation authorities, including organization designation authorization; regulatory interpretation standardization efforts; training programs; expediting the rulemaking process and giving priority to rules related to safety; and enhancing global competitiveness of United States manufactured and certificated aerospace and aviation products and services throughout the world.
