Pentastar Aviation Maintenance Technician Acts Quickly, Saves Distressed Woman’s Life

Pentastar Aviation maintenance technician, Gary Williams, came to the aid of a woman who was unconscious and not breathing outside of American Legion Post 108 in Oxford, Mich. Williams was hoping to relax after work on February 22 by playing darts, but quickly responded to a request for someone who knew CPR.

Williams instructed someone to call 9-1-1 and then administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to the 64-year-old woman until the Oxford Fire Department arrived on the scene. According to Oxford EMS Coordinator Nancy Hunger, the woman’s distressed state, caused by a respiratory condition and exposure to cold air, had improved by the time she arrived at the hospital. She had strong vitals and had regained consciousness.

“I’m glad she had the power to come through and that I was able to help someone in need,” Williams said in an interview in an article in the Oxford Leader.

Experience as a certified lifeguard and an Eagle Scout prepared Williams to respond in an emergency. This was the third time he used his emergency medical skills. He said that he encouraged others to learn to administer CPR and rescue breathing.

Pentastar Aviation is known for its culture of safety in all aspects of the company operations. It has recognized the importance of preparing employees to respond to medical emergencies by offering CPR and “first responder” training courses on-site throughout the year.

While Williams does not consider himself a hero, his coworkers and supervisors at Pentastar Aviation do. He has worked at Pentastar as an aircraft mechanic for six years.

“We are very proud to have Gary working at Pentastar,” said Rick Maloney, CEO and President, Pentastar Aviation. “He is not only a dedicated employee, but his quick application of life saving skills allowed him to help someone in need."
