Metrojet Gains Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department Safety Management System Approval

Hong Kong Aviation Group is proud to announce that the implementation of its brand-new Safety
Management System (SMS) became ‘live’ in its two companies, Metrojet Limited and Heliservices (HK)
Limited, in January.
The implementation follows more than two years of concentrated ‘in-house’ preparatory work by dedicated safety management professionals including former government aviation officials. Both companies are now formally recognized by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department as meeting
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 6 requirements in respect of SMS.
“As a systematic, explicit, proactive and forward-looking approach to the management of safety, our SMS provides a comprehensive additional layer of safety by using risk analysis and quality management methods to achieve specific safety goals and generate a positive corporate safety culture integrating all our departments in line with world best practice," Metrojet Limited CEO Chris Buchholz said. "It is not a one-off event but rather a long-term organizational commitment to put safety above all else, which has always been our first and foremost priority in everything we do. Our unique business principles guide us to embrace an open safety reporting culture as well as to continuously review and improve our standards without complacency. Our adoption of our industry-leading SMS is yet another distinguishing factor that benefits our customers.”
Metrojet is an early adopter of SMS, which became an ICAO requirement in January 2009. Metrojet has implemented SMS not only for the fleet under
its Air Operator’s certificate, but also for its private category fleet and its market-leading maintenance service center, as well as other departments, thereby continuing to lead by example.
