ARGUS Releases August Business Aircraft Activity

August 2011 flight activity bounces back. TRAQPak data indicates that August 2011 business aircraft activity was up 4.0% from July 2011.

Looking at the results for operational categories, Part 91 rebounded from last month posting a gain of 7.4%, and the Part 135 charter segment increased slightly over the previous month, up 0.5%. The fractional segment showed a slight decline in activity, down 0.6% from July. Thanks in large part to gains in the Part 91 market, all aircraft categories showed an increase in activity over July. Looking at individual market segments, the Part 91 mid-size cabin market showed the largest month over month increase, up 9.9%, with Part 91 small cabin and turboprops following, up 8.0% and 7.3% respectively.

ARGUS TRAQPak data is serial-number specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the US (including Alaska and Hawaii). The tables below reflect business aircraft activity data for August 1-31, 2011 vs. July 1-31, 2011 and August 1-31, 2011 vs. August 1-31, 2010 respectively. Note: Part 135 charter certificate flight activity reflects flights of aircraft on Part 135 charter certificates irrespective of the mission type.

Comparing year over year results (August 2011 vs. August 2010) aircraft activity increased slightly up 0.2%. The Part 91 market continues to see positive year over year growth posting an increase of 4.9% from August 2010. The Part 135 market continued to see a decline from the previous year, down 6.9%. The fractional market posted its first year over year decline since February 2011, down 0.6%. Aircraft category results were mainly positive this month, with mid-size cabin on top, up 3.4%, followed by large cabin, up 3.0%, and small cabin, up 2.4%. The turboprop market was the only market to post a decline, down 3.5%. Looking at individual market segments, the Part 91 small cabin segment saw the largest gain with an increase of 10.3%; the fractional small cabin segment had the largest decline in year over year flight activity, down 16.6%.

Large Cabin Jet
Large Jets, Ultra-Long Range and Heavy Jets – Jet aircraft with maximum takeoff weight of over 41,000 lbs. For weight over 41,000 lbs and Ultra-Long Range and Heavy Jets having an NBAA IFR Range above 6,000NM.
