ARGUS Releases November Business Aircraft Activity Figures

ARGUS TRAQPak data is serial-number specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii). The tables reflect business aircraft activity data for Nov. 1-30, 2010, vs. Oct. 1-31, 2010, and Nov. 1-30, 2010, vs. Nov. 1-30, 2009, respectively.

Note: Part 135 charter certificate flight activity reflects flights of aircraft on Part 135 charter certificates irrespective of the mission type. Historically business aircraft activity declines in November (as compared to October), and this year is no exception. TRAQPak data indicates November business aircraft activity was down slightly, -3.8%, from October. Looking at operational categories, the fractional segment saw the smallest month-over-month decrease, down -2.4%. Part 135 saw the biggest decrease, down -4.3%. The Part 91 market was down -3.9%. Reviewing aircraft categories, the large cabin market saw a slight increase, up 0.4%. The mid-size cabin market saw a decrease of -2.8% from October, and the small cabin market saw the biggest decrease, down -5.1%. In positive territory, large cabin jets increased month over month in both the fractional and Part 135 markets at 5.0% and 3.5%, respectively.

Comparing year-over-year results (November 2010 vs. November 2009), aircraft activity was up notably at 6.3%. Looking at operational categories, the Part 91 market had the largest increase, up 12.2%. The fractional segment had a modest increase, up 2.2%, while the Part 135 market was down -0.8%. Reviewing aircraft category results, the turboprop and midsize cabin jet market segments were up 7.7% and 7.0%, respectively. Small cabin jets showed a 5.3% increase over November 2009, and large cabin aircraft also saw an increase, up 2.0%. Looking at individual market segments, the Part 91 turboprop sector saw the largest increase, up 15.4% from the same period last year.

Mid-size Jets (MJ) and Super Mid-size Jets (SMJ) – Jet aircraft with maximum takeoff weight of 20,000 to 41,000 lbs.

Large Cabin Jet
Large Jets, Ultra-Long Range and Heavy Jets – Jet aircraft with maximum takeoff weight of over 41,000 lbs. For weight over 41,000 lbs. and Ultra-Long Range and Heavy Jets having an NBAA IFR Range above 6000 NM.
